[EN] Esther Couch grew up influenced by a diverse range of musical and visual surroundings. At a relatively early age, she decided to break from a career law in law in order to pursue a career in fashion styling in Paris. Her interest in fashion subsequently morphed into a keen interest in theatre and film, where her true passion for combining sound and vision finally emerged. The multi-disciplinary work of Esther Couch encompasses, film, video, theatre and photography. Incoporating early film and painting aesthetics into her later work, she creates portraits of hyper-modernity, while using references from surrealist and hallucinatory artworks. In much of her work, she seeks to reconcile the enigma of the past with the present, creating work which is subsequently strongly narrative and contemporary in feel against a poetic and melancholic backdrop.

Currently working as a director, a production designer and an image consultant, she spends most of her time between Sydney and Paris.
